Das County liegt etwa 100 km nordwestlich des geographischen Zentrums von Texas und hat eine Fläche von 2372 Quadratkilometern, wovon 15 Quadratkilometer Wasserfläche sind. Es grenzt im Uhrzeigersinn an folgende Countys: [[Scurry County]], [[Nolan County]], [[Coke County]], [[Sterling County]] und [[Howard County (Texas)|Howard County]].

== Geschichte ==
Mitchell County wurde [[1876]] aus Teilen des [[Bexar County]] gebildet. Benannt wurde es nach [[Asa Mitchell]] und [[Eli Mitchell]], zweier frühen Siedlern und Soldaten der [[Texas Revolution|texanischen Revolution]].
