'''Para-Ordnance''' ist ein [[Kanada|kanadischer]] Waffenhersteller, der im Jahre 1985 in in [[Scarborough (Ontario)|Scarborough]], [[Ontario]] gegründet wurde. Die Einsatz der Waffen findet im militärischen als auch im zivilen Bereich Anwendung.  Das Unternehmen entwickelt und stellt seine Waffen in einer eigenen Fabrik in Scarborough her. Das Unternehmen vertreibt seine Waffen weltweit. Eine weitere Niederlassung befindet sich in [[Pineville]], [[North Carolina]], [[USA]].  

== Geschichte ==

Im Jahre 1985 haben zwei benachbarte Freunde, Ted Szabo und Thanos Polyzos, das Unternehmen in Toronto gegründet. Szabo wurde in Ungarn geboren. Seine Familie floh in der Zeit des [[ungarischer Volksaufstand|ungarischen Volksaufstandes 1956]] aus dem Land. Polyzos wurde in Griechenland geboren und immigrierte später nach Kanada. 

Das Unternehmen begann mit der Entwicklung und Herstellung von Paintball Waffen. Durch die Führung von CEO Ted Szabo begann das Unternehmen mit der Entwicklung von Handfeuerwaffen. 

Am 28. März 2007 verstarb Ted Szabo im Alter von 60 Jahren. Das Unternehmen wird seitdem von Polyzos geführt.

Para-Ordnance offers a wide range of products for the law enforcement, [[military]], and [[civilian]] markets. The company has created a true [[double action]] 1911 pistol, in addition to single- and double-stack pistols in .45 ACP, .40 S&W, 9mm, and .38 super calibers.  Para pistols have found a variety of uses, including competition, law enforcement, [[concealed carry]], and general target shooting. Para Ordnance was also the manufacturer of the first double action only 1911-style pistol. The introduction of the LDA (Light Double Action) allowed Law Enforcement agencies to use 1911 style pistols while still addressing the perceived liability issues of a single action pistol.

In recent years Para-Ordnance competes with companies such as [[Smith & Wesson]], [[Springfield Armory, Inc.]], and [[Kimber Manufacturing]].  They sponsor professional shooter [[Todd Jarrett]], winner of several world-wide pistol shooting competitions.

Para-Ordnance is now located in Pineville, NC.
