The Jewish exodus from Arab lands refers to the 20th century expulsion or emigration of Jews, primarily of Sephardi and Mizrahi background, from majority Arab lands. This emigration increased in the aftermath of the 1948 Arab-Israeli War and was caused by two converging processes. Firstly, in Arab countries discrimination against their Jewish citizens, sometimes state sanctioned, escalated significantly. Harassment, persecution and the confiscation of property followed. Secondly and in response to mistreatments of Jews in these countries, a Zionist drive for Jewish immigration from Arab lands to Israel intensified. The great majority of Jews in Arab lands emigrated to the modern State of Israel.
