The new Nova was a rebadged and mildly restyled Japanese market [[Toyota Sprinter]], a model sold in Japan as an upmarket version of the [[Toyota Corolla]]. Nova shared the Corolla's AE82 platform, {{convert|1.6|L|CID|abbr=on}} 4-cylinder engines and was available with 5-speed manual, 3-speed or 4-speed automatic transmissions.

In 1962 [[Argentina]] assembled the first/second generation Chevy II until 1974 as Chevrolet 400, and the early third-generation (1968 model) Nova was as the Chevrolet Chevy from late 1969 through 1978, both models overlapping  for several years, the Chevy II marketed as a family sedan while the Nova as a sporty alternative.
