==Earls of Derby==

[[Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby|Thomas Stanley]] was rewarded with the title of Earl Derby in 1485 by [[Henry VII of England|Henry VII]] as a reward for his support at the [[Battle of Bosworth Field]] which led to Henry's gaining the crown.  The title was taken from the area in South [[Lancashire]] called [[West Derby]] (and not from the city of [[Derby]]).
