Gnodde began his career at Goldman Sachs in London in 1987.<ref name="bloombergbio"/> Over the course of his career, he worked in Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong.<ref name="goldmansachsbio"/> He became a managing director in 1996 and partner in 1998.<ref name="goldmansachsbio">{{cite web|title=Richard J.
