The camp was started by Maurice Arthur Hirshberg ("Doc H")and his partner Al Engelhardt. The camp is currently owned and operated by Jordan and Fran Shiner. <p> == History == <p> The original Camp Horseshoe was located in Minong, WI and from 1933 to 1939 was co-directed by Al Engelhardt and Doc H. Doc H began easing Gordy Morrison into the director position, and by 1961 Morrison had acquired sole directorship. The Bear, as he was known, was a tough, charismatic leader. Unfortunately, in 1973, Gordy suffered a major heart attack and died. Bob Mercier took the reigns in 1973. In 1985, Scott Morrison, Gordy’s son, took over and led the camp until its Minong location closed in 1990. <p> In 2004, Camp Horseshoe reopened in Rhinelander, WI under the directorship of Jordan and Fran Shiner. As a former camper and counselor at the original Camp Horseshoe, Shiner brought many of the traditions and spirit of Horseshoe Minong to the new Camp Horseshoe.
