The company's name is derived from a computer error. When some [[Microsoft Windows]] computers crash, a blue screen containing "STOP 0x0000001E" appears.<ref name="auto"/> This name was chosen because the founders had the ambition that 1E could prevent this from happening to big companies.<ref name="auto1"/>

1E opened her first office, in Ealing, London, in 1999, shortly followed by an office in Noida, Delhi. In 2001, 1E launched her first software product, NightWatchman, followed by Nomad in 2003.{{Citation needed|date=October 2019}}
