Dr. '''Peter Beilenson''' is a [[United States Democratic Party|Democratic Party]] politician in [[Maryland]], [[United States]]. He is a former Health Commissioner of [[Baltimore, Maryland]], having served for 13 years under the administrations of Kurt Schmoke and [[Martin J. O'Malley]]. He sought the [[United States Democratic Party|Democratic]] [[Nomination]] for [[United States House of Representatives, Maryland District 3|Maryland's third congressional district]] in [[U.S. House election, 2006|2006]]; despite taking a quarter of the vote, he lost to [[John Sarbanes]]. The seat had been vacated by ten-term [[Congressional]] veteran [[Ben Cardin]] to pave the way for his own run for the U.S. [[Senate]].

Named the "Best Civil Servant" by Baltimore Magazine and recognized nationally by the American [[Public Health]] Association for "creative public health work," his dedication to public service was instilled at an early age as the son of [[Anthony C. Beilenson|Congressman Tony Beilenson]], who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 -1997.   

Dr. Beilenson received his undergraduate degree from [[Harvard College]], Medical Doctorate from [[Emory University]] School of Medicine, and Masters in Public Health from [[Johns Hopkins University]] [[Bloomberg School of Public Health]]. He also served as an [[EMT]], [[teacher]] and family practitioner before his tenure as Health Commissioner. 

Dr. Beilenson is married to Chris and has five children. He lives in [[Baltimore, Maryland|Baltimore]], and serves now as the Health Officer for Howard County, MD.
