"The God that Failed" is a song from [[Metallica]]'s self-titled album. This album was a controversial album written in 1991, because of the change in lyrics (from death and destruction to more personal topics). 

"The God that Failed", written by [[James Hetfield | Hetfield]] and [[Lars Ulrich | Ulrich]], is a song about Hetfield's parentmother's [[Christian Science]] beliefs. Because of her [[faith]] she refused treatement and died from [[cancer]].
