A '''flowergirl''' is a participant in a [[wedding]] procession. Her responsibility is usually to spread [[flower]] [[petal]]s on the floor before the [[bride]], or to carry a [[bouquet]] of flowers. She is usually a young child. Her male equivalent is the [[ringbearer]]. Often the ''ringbearer'' and the ''flowergirl'' are made to look like a couple, as with the [[best man]] and [[maid of honor]]. As with ringbearers, a child under 3 years of age is not recommended for the role of flowergirl.
