== IDES history ==
IDES is an acronym for Integrated Design Engineering Systems.  Founded in 1986 by Michael L. Kmetz, IDES started as an Engineering PHD project for IBM.  IBM needed a way to catalog the plastics materials used in manufacturing of their computer components like keyboards, computer cases and monitors.

Quickly, the need for this information from one source grew and IDES transitioned its method for storing and presenting data from [[floppy discs[[, to [[CD-rom]] and in 1996, to the Internet.
