Tamriel is the fictional continent where the events of The Elder Scrolls games take place. The Elder Scrolls are a series of computer role playing games. For more information on non-fictional information pertaining the game series Elder Scrolls, please see Elder Scrolls. It is located on the planet of Nirn, which is the mortal realm of the finite and the partial, as opposed to the immortal realms of the infinite and the absolute, which are not Nirn. To clarify, all mortal races (Playable races in the series) are of Nirn, and all divine beings, called Daedra and Aedra(not playable in the series) or not of Nirn. In the Elder Scrolls, Mundus, another name for Nirn, is the Elvish root for the human word "mundane", meaning ordinary. Some, such as the Mythic Dawn however, view Tamriel as an extension of the realm of Oblivion itself. That means that Tamriel at one time may have been a realm of immortals, but was separated from immortality at some point one may assume from lore according to the actual game Oblivion, the fourth installment of The Elder Scrolls.

Just for final clarification before you move on, all information about Tamriel's inhabitance, history, geogrophy, etc... is pure fiction from the game series and it is assumed you are at least partially familiar with the game weather by word of mouth or by first hand experience playing the game. That said, though many finner points of lore may not make complete sense to the casual first time reader, the aim or this article is to give as much information about Tamriel as possible without the need of several articles. This article is by Elder Scroll fans for Elder Scroll fans.
