Gnomedex is a now yearly technical conference coordinated by Lockergnome founder, Chris Pirillo, and began 4 years ago (it is not affiliated with the desktop environment GNOME). The conference is typically held over the summer on a weekend, though this year it will be held September 30th through October 2nd. .

It has been traditionally held in the quiet town of Des Moines, Iowa, Pirillo's home town, but due to its size, has moved to Lake Tahoe.

The conference consists of parties, a keynote by Chris Pirillo, and presentations by various leaders in tech-centered fields. At the most recent conference, notable speakers included Rob Malda of Slashdot fame, Tim O'Reilly, and John C. Dvorak, as well as others.

Started as a "a tech conference for everyone else", what Gnomedex is exactly about is not really known. It is fun, informative and generally enjoyable. Topics are vast, but activities are usually centered around a theme; at Gnomedex 4.0, the theme is "Taking the 'con' out of Convention". A bit odd, the mixture makes up a truly unique experience unparalleled elsewhere.

Gnomedex 5.0 was in late June 2005, in Seattle. The theme was "Grassroots of RSS, Blogging, Podcasting, BitTorrent, Media!"
