Born in [[Edmond, Oklahoma]], Wainwright played [[piano]] and [[guitar]] in kindergarten and began performing publicly at the age of seven. At the age of eleven, Wainwright auditioned for the Oklahoma Opry, a well-known country music opry. She was mentored by Grant Leftwich, the opry’s creator throughout her years performing in the opry. However, Leftwich passed away in [[2006]]. Wainwright was given the opportunity to perform at his funeral.<ref>Delaney, Darcy.
