He also serves as the [[Ccouncil]] [[  liaison]] to the [[Parks]] and [[Recreation]] Board and Youth [[Council]], as well as the [[alternate]] [[  liaison]] to the [[Preservation]] and [[Redevelopment]] [[  Board]]. Additionally, Dickens serves on the Board of Directors of the [[North Texas]] [[  Urban]] League]] and the Supplemental Benefits Plan Board. 

He is an [[Irving]] [[Residency|resident]]has lived in  Irving since 1960, Dickens is son to American father and [[Mexico|Mexican]] mother and is fluent in [[Spanish]]. 

Dickens has two [[sisters]] Linda and Eileen, who resideslive in [[Puebla]], [[Mexico]] with the family's [[mother]] and her son Joseph. When not visiting with his [[children]] or grandchildren, he can be seen driving around [[Irving]] on his [[Harley-Davidson|Harley]] checking the city out.
