The Hornet Archive was '''the''' place for releases from the global phenomena called the [[demo scene]]. It ran from 1987 to 1998. It has since been largely supplanted by [[Scene.org]]. It was run by the [[demo  group]] of the same name and eventually came to include 16,248 files totalling over 7GB, an extremely large amount of data by 1990's standards. Nearly every [[demo  group]], coder, [[tracker]], [[demo party]] and anything else related to the scene was uploaded and released to the Hornet Archive during its 11 year run. Because of its central role in the [[demo scene]] community, the Hornet Archive was able to exert massive influence over the scene and Hornet's members became quite well known despite not being well known for their demos. Additionally, any activity or release sponsored by the archive was considered to be the penultimate in its category.
