Cheemas are found among Muslim and Sikh populations. While in Pakistan Cheemas are Muslim, in India the predominant section of Cheemas are Sikhs. Historically Cheemas  followed local [[Peer-E-Tariqat]] (The head of a [[Sufi]] order),
 and  ''Jathera'' ([[Ancestor worship]]) as well as previously, [[Buddhism]]. Most of them are either Sikh, Muslim, Sikh [[Agnostic]] or [[Atheist]] in their modern religious or non-religious affiliations.
