Kennedy received a Bachelors of Arts in Computer Science from [[Clark University]] in Worcester

In January of 1993 Kennedy held a consulting position at [[Data General]] in [[Marlboro, Massachusetts]].  Post graduation, Kennedy worked for [[Allmerica Property & Casualty Companies]] in Worcester, Massachusetts; C.W. Costello & Associated in Weston, Massachusetts; [[Fidelity Investments]] in Boston, Massachusetts; [[Parexel]] International in Waltham, Massachusetts; [[State Street Global Advisors]] in Boston, and [[State Street Corporation]] in Boston.

Kennedy has served on the Board of Directors of the [[National Multiple Sclerosis Society]], mValent's Technology Advisory Board, and the NICSA Technology Advisory Board.

Kennedy founded the [[Internet Service Provider]] Net-Genuity in [[Somerville, Massachusetts]] in 1997 which was later changed to Nethority consulting due to a threat of litigation from Genuity Corporation.
