''It has been suggested that the origins of the slur are in the slang word for semen, basically implying that the person in question is a "waste of sperm".'' It seems equally possible that the term arose independantly of this meaning in the Newfoundland context. Can anyone source this or is this just somebody's personal speculation? Looks a bit like original research that I'd favor removing, unless someone has some experience with them being connected. [[User:Nonpl(contracted; show full)experience is that they are ''disturbingly'' well known in Newfoundland, to the point that I've never encountered anyone under 30 who ''hasn't'' heard of them. In terms of media, I know that there was a paper written about them, and that they were on CBC Radio, but they're more of a grassroots phenomena (word of mouth, burned CD-Rs, shared MP3, etc). They're a fad, certainly, but I think a notable one as far as Newfoundland culture is concerned.

:::They're important to this page because, as you say Zippo, they kindof represent a concrete media embodiment of the skeet image. [[User:Nonplus|Nonplus]] 06:39, 5 February 2006 (UTC) '''(formerly [[User:Delief|Delief]])'''
