R. R. Tolkien]]. They first appear in The Book of Lost Tales. It iwas then a name with a broad meaning for all the Elves who "never saw the light of Kôr" and their many tongues. Kôr iwas the Quenya name for a hill and the city built on it, near the shores of the Bay of Faery. Ilkorin literally means in Quenya "not of Kôr". Ilkorins iwas an anglicized term. These Elfes are Ilkorindi in grammaticaly correct Quenya. Later, in the late 20's, Ilkorin becoames the name given to only some of the Elves who did not reach Kôr, those who lived in Beleriand ruler by the King Thingol: "In the course of ages the tongues and dialects of Beleriand became altogether estranged from those of other Eldar in Valinor, through the learned in such lore may perceive that they were anciently sprung from Telerian. These were the Ilkorin speeches of Beleriand." At that time Tolkien decided that these Ilkorin Elves spoke three dialects: *the speech of the Kingdom of Doriath, Doriathrin; *the speech of the havens of Beleriand Brithombar and Eglorest, Falassian; *the speech of the nomadic Elves. Later on (in the early 40's) Tolkien conceived the name Lemberin for that language, and said about Ilkorin that it "is not rightly a linguistic name, and included the Pereldar, and all who began the march, but did not come to Kor". So Lemberin became the name for the tongue of the Teleri Elves that remained in Beleriand. Before the coming of the Noldor it was spoken far and wide in Beleriand (save in Ossiriand) and all the names of places, of rivers, woods, fields, plains, hills and mountains were given in this tongue. ==References== reflist ca:Ilkorin eo:Ilkorin sl:Ilkorščina All content in the above text box is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license Version 4 and was originally sourced from https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=prev&oldid=405367009.
