[http://www.wikitree.org WikiTree] (initiated on [[April 26]] [[2005]]) is a project running on the [[MediaWiki]] platform that aims to bring together basic personal profiles of all individuals we know who ever lived on this planet and ''automatically construct'' bloodline trees of families that will gradually start forming a global ''family forest of humanity''.

WikiTree is currently not hosted by the [[Wikimedia Foundation]]. Instead, it is hosted on private servers.  The service can run quite slowly, especially, when a large family tree is involved, causing delays of many seconds inbetween page loads as the family tree graphs in articles are constructed.

WikiTree made the front page of [http://www.digg.com digg.com] on March 06, 2006 and servers appear to have gone down in response to the flood of traffic (see the [[Digg Effect]]). The server
s haves been subsequently upgraded, though the site is not yet running as of March 8th, 2006.
