Because of all the missing features (JavaScript and Flash support), it is agreed to be a fast and secure web-browser. But most of all, its way of caching is quite different compared to that of most other browsers (although [[Opera_(web_browser)
|Opera]] can be configured to behave so) - namely, it utilizes so-called "memory-resident caching". This means that all the information commonly cached in other web-browsers is kept only in the computer's memory until Off By One's process is closed. Therefore no data are stored on the hard-disk for the next session. This includes on-line information about the user and visited pages ([[cookie]]s), and web-pages' data (documents, graphics, scripts), except for the persistent [[HTTP]] cookies, which are stored in a single file in a directory where the Off By One executable file is located.

Off By One runs on Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, and XP. It is available as a zip archive or an installer.

Off By One by default displays the user agent identifier "Mozilla/3.0 (compatible; OffByOne; &sys) Webster Pro V3.2" which is editable in Off By One's configuration file.

The most current version of Off By One is 3.5a, released [[January 31]], [[2005]].
