==Youth and high school==
Tyrell McCrea, raised in [[Del Rio Texas]], spent his early childhood playing football and baseball. As a child, McCrea and his older brother, Frenchey Jr., would practice against each other in the parks and streets of Del Rio. He played in the city leagues but was unable to participate in football his 7th and 8th grade season because he attended a private school. He began to blossom into a special player while attending [[Del Rio High School]]. McCrea became a key player on offense as a senior at Del Rio despite being hampered by ankle injuries that season. He was rated one of the top 50 fullbacks in the state of Texas, All-Southwest Texas Running Back, and All-District 27-5A RB.
