==College==
McCrea was a linebacker at [[Angelo State University]], where he was known for being a leader. McCrea started 4 seasons after taking a redshirt his first year on campus.

Although starting four seasons, he finished his college career in style by being named All-Lone Star Conference his senior year. McCrea also helped ASU baseball team to a [[NCAA Division II]] World Series berth in baseball.

McCrea's first career start closed with a stat sheet of 20 tackles (9 solo) and a quarterback sack against East Central Oklahoma University. McCrea best overall season was his senior year, when he finished second on the team in total tackles with 78, finished the season with 24 solo tackles, 54 assisted tackles, 6 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble, and ranked 10th in the conference for tackles per game with 7.8. 

McCrea attended Texas Tech's NFL Pro Day in the spring of 2007. He graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts.

==Professional career==
===Corpus Christi Sharks===
McCrea went undrafted by the NFL and was signed as a free agent by the [[Corpus Christi Sharks]] of the [[af2]] to play fullback and linebacker in June 2007. He spent a week with the [[Austin Wranglers]] of the AFL prior. McCrea started the last five games of the season and earned Defensive Player of the game twice. McCrea's best performance was against the [[Texas Copperheads]] where he finished with 4 tackles, sack, and a forced fumble for a 40 yard touchdown. During the summer, McCrea worked out for the [[Green Bay Packers]]. In November 2007, McCrea signed to play with the Sharks for another season. <ref>[http://www.caller.com/news/2007/oct/24/sharks-re-sign-two-key-contributors/]</ref> He started the Sharks first 7 games of the 2008 season but his season was cut short with season ending surgery. McCrea finished with 13.5 tackles, to go along with two sacks.
