'''Ben Davies''' ([[6 January]] [[1858]] - [[28 March]] [[1943]]) was a popular [[Wales|Welsh]] [[tenor]]. He was born in the [[Swansea]] valley town of [[Pontardawe]].  

As well as performing in the [[Carl Rosa Opera Company]], Davies also appeared in the first production of the [[Royal English Opera]] (now the [[Palace Theatre, London]]), playing in the première of the [[opera]] ''[[Ivanhoe]]''. 

Davies was noted for frequently singing with his eyes closed.

He also was good at football and almost made it in the professional leagues with Manchester United football club until he injured his leg badly and was unable to continue his career and the decided to take up singing.
