Artificial versions of the Lance are used as the primary weapon for the mass production type Evangelion units, and also feature prominently in Instrumentality.

=== S2 Engine ===
"Super Solenoid Engine", an Angel's limitless source
  of power. A faulty version of it was installed in Evangelion-04; during startup, the Engine produced a strong anti-AT Field which destroyed the American Branch of NERV.
After the incident, SEELE tried to keep S^2 from being utilized in the Evangelion, but their attempts failed when Eva 01 devoured one from the body of the 14th Angel - Zeruel (see [[Evangelion List of Angels]]).
