It consisted of eight teams competing in three rounds of [[best-of-three playoff|best-of-three series]].  In the championship round, [[Newport Gulls|Newport]] defeated [[Vermont Mountaineers|Vermont]] 2-1 to win their fourth NECBL title.

Mike Melillo was later hit by a pitch, giving the Gulls a pair of two-out baserunners.  However, Derek Jones ([[Washington State University|Washington State]]) grounded out to end the inning and the Newport threat.

Vermont took the lead in the top of the fifth.  Nick Martinez ([[Fordham University|Fordham]]) singled with one out.

Newport quickly answered in the bottom of the fifth.
