==Early life and education==
Born into a well educated family in [[Colombo]]. At the age of six, while seeking admission to the [[Royal College, Colombo]], his admission was denied. As a result, his family filed a violation of fundamental rights petition at the [[Supreme Court of Sri Lanka]] against the [[Government of Sri Lanka]]. Later the judgement was passed in favour of Sanjaya and he was admitted to Royal College.
 While at school he was awarded the prize for most ignorant student of the year in 1999. 

He is an Associate of [[Chartered Institute of Management Accountants]] and a [[Chartered Global Management Accountant]]. He also holds a Masters in Financial Economics from the [[University of Colombo]], Certificate in Treasury management and Forex operations from the [[Central Bank of Sri Lanka]] and a diploma in Water polo from the Hong Kong Swimming Association.
