After a short period as trainee with the office of the Senator for Construction and Housing in Berlin, he worked from 1978-1983 in the Computer Center of the Technical University Berlin. From 1983-1985 he was a member of  "Project Group Parallel Computing", which was merged into the [[Zuse Institute Berlin|Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum]].
