Tamriel is the fictional continent where the events of [[the Elder Scrolls]] games take place.

Tamriel consists of nine provinces, each of these provinces corresponds with their own culture and race, with the exception of High Rock, which houses two distinct species:

Notice that many of the "gods" of the Dunmeri pantheon are in fact Daedra, who the Dark Elves originally considered to be their real ancestors. The worship of these dark entities was largely forbidden under the Tribunal of Almalexia, Vivec and Sotha Sil, who positioned themselves as the 'new' gods of the Dunmer. This did little to stop devoted followers of the demons, though, and Daedra worship is common amongst Dark Elves even today, and with the recent destruction of the Tribunal, the Temple has been powerless to stop the new rise in demon worship. Furthermore, note that some aspects of the original Daedra worship have always persisted in Dark Elf society, such as the worship of ancestors in a much more necromantic way that the simple veneration practiced by other elves.

Most traces of Akatosh disappeared from ancient Chimer legends during their so-called 'exodus', primarily due to that god's association and esteem with the Altmeri. However, most aspects of Akatosh which seem so important to the mortal races, namely immortality, historicity, and genealogy, have conveniently resurfaced in Almalexia, the most popular of Morrowind's divine Tribunal.

To the distant south of Tamriel supposedly lies the Elven homeland of Old Ehlnofey, which was devastated in ancient times (hence the early migration of Elves to other continents, namely Tamriel).
