He was a soldier in the [[American Revolutionary War]]. He served under Captains Smith and Boyer in the 1st Virginia Regiment starting in 1780. Later that year he served under Captain Robert Morrows in [[Colonel William Washington]]'s Continental Dragoons. He is believed to have fought in the Battle of Cowpens and the Battle of Guiliford Courthouse.
