John Storm is most well known for being one of less than 90 dragoons that fought under Colonel William Washington during the Battle of Cowpens in the American Revolutionary War1. Dragoons comanded huge power upon the battlefield at the time because of their ability to incite fear within the enemy infantry. "The shock of a cavalry charge often proved decisive in gaining a victory."2 Had it not been for these handful of dragoons, the Battle of Cowpens, a turning point in the war, could have been an American loss1. John Storm was born January 3, 1760 in Latimore Township, Pennsylvania and died December 13, 1835 in Greene County, Indiana3. He served under Captains Ballard Smith and Thomas Boyer in the 1st Virginia Regiment starting in 17803. Later that year he served under Captain Robert Morrows in Colonel William Washington's Continental Dragoons3. He is believed to have fought not only in the Battle of Cowpens, but the Battle of Guildford Court House as well.
