A pathologists' assistant is an intensively trained allied health professional who provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a pathologist. There are currently seven universities that are accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.  All programs but one confer a Master's Degree upon graduation.  The Master's level programs consist of:

Upon graduation from the PA training program the graduate will have the oppourtuninty to take the certifying examination offered by the [http://www.pathologistsassistants.org American Association of Pathologists Assistants]in conjuction with [http://www.ascp.org The American Society for Clinical Pathology].  The ASCP is the premier certifying body for laboratory professionals in the United States.
