Basic Information
Founded by: SDSUPinoy
The current format for invoking a board is:

{{Chess position|=
8 |rd|nd|bd|qd|kd|bd|nd|rd|=
7 |pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|pd|=
6 | | | | | | | | |=
5 | | | | | | | | |=
4 | | | | | | | | |=
3 |pl| | | | | | | |=
2 | |pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|pl|=
1 |rl|nl|bl|ql|kl|bl|nl|rl|=
a b c d e f g h

And change pieces as needed. Piece names are in the following format, the first letter, on what type of unit it is, and the second letter its colour. For the first letter, "r" specifies a rook, "b" a bishop, "n" a knight, "k" a king, "q" for queen and "p" for pawn. "l" specifies white for the second letter, and "d" black.

As the former British U16 #8 my recent conclusion is that the above cannot be refuted, as White is given the advantage with the first move, something I now attribute to my ultimate revelation, that I did in fact read Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, I just never consciously remembered it before today! Strange how the last thing I may learn is a fact about myself that I denied to the extent that I bought the film version, which was okay, but seemingly inferior as an expression of humanistic art.

Current games
In most of the games on this page, the players are not identified on this page. I think it would be a good idea for the players to voluntarily identify themselves with their Wikipedia member User names above and below each game "board" in a manner similar to many of the games in the Wikipedia:Chess championship. Those players who want to remain anonymous can omit their names, but I think most would want to add their User names. H Padleckas 08:29, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, but it's a colloborative game, and as such, it would get immensely crowded to list all participants in each game. -- Natalinasmpf 08:35, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
:So, who's allowed and/or who's not allowed to play each of these games? Can I just pick a game anywhere on this page and make a move? H Padleckas 14:30, 10 July 2005 (UTC)
::As I understand it, anybody can join any game unless specific players are designated. Also you cannot play for both sides. Eric119 05:02, 11 July 2005 (UTC)
Calvin Random Chess
Since this is a sandbox project, I thought we could have a little bit of nonsense. In this game, anyone can make any move they like, as long as they have a good reason for doing so.
And the one and only rule; The way to win is by killing all your enemy's kings.

1. The kings decide their knights are not worthy of honor, and their titles are retracted. They are
left to be pawns. Meanwhile, all of White's pawns are promoted to Bishops for being such good members
of the church. Black was too lazy to do so.
2. After leaving for a couple days to use the restroom (he really had to go), the white king from the
previous game to find that a new game has started. Angry, he takes out half the board.
3. Black apologizes and offers white three queens.
4. Vines then grow from the edge of the board and take away all the pieces from files a and h.
5. Toaster strudels come out of nowhere and divide the two armies.
6. The pawns, stuck by the ever increasing rain, decide to 'dig in' and go out WWI-trench style.
However, they become frozen (its winter) and all have to be taken away for hypothermia rehab.
7. One of White's bishops proclaims in a loud voice that "THIS IS TO SILLY TO CONTINUE!"
and proceeds to make a legitimate move.
8. Running of the bulls!!! Poor white bishop gets trampled to death.
9. POLKA DOTS!!!
10.Bam Margera snaps a bull in the butt. Chaos assumes
11.Knights on c4 and a3 start cow tipping. Cows get mad and zap knights with antimatter rays.
12.Remaining knights get bored and decide to play a competitive game of Ratchet:Deadlocked on their
wide screen TV.
13.It is suddenly revealed that video games do not exist in the chess world. Two police officers come and attempt to arrest the knights.
14.The police arrest the 2 knights and the 12 pawns as accomplices.
15.RIOT!!!!
16.The police officers pull off one of those super-cool Dragonball Z things and the entire boards a splodes.
17.The players and their friends fight over who is going to replace the board
18.They decide that a regular chess board would cost too much, so they instead ordered some chicken fingers.
19.The players decide to play a new game of chess, with themselves as pieces.
20.Everyone playing the game feels the urge to give 20 bucks to a certain guy made out of pie. And the bishops explode.
21.Everyone suddenly notices that black accidentally put a knight in the plac of a pawn and a white pawn is
promoted.
22.A white pawn from the past appears.
23.The pawn from the past asks the king about what has been going on recently.
24.The pawn is sniped by an Infinity Patrol agent somewhere off the board.
25.The pawn at G2 takes down everyone in his row and column in some form of Jackie Chan-esque martial arts thing.
26.Earthquake occurs, board splits in half, and Black's side sinks.
27.(Game over.)

Move 6:Dispute - I dispute move 6, I would prefer Nc5 instead.
Branch?: Possibly branch the two moves if this can't be resolved. Either way the knight is lost. Current move leads to bxa4. Prefered move leads to Bxc5.

Idea c1-e3. Forces knight to move and moves bishop out of the shadows.
Knc2 would then be blacks next move. White should move Kf2 -- ciyean

How exactly does this work? I would start with e4. Goyanks193
Take a look at the other games. Basically put the notation below. There are many principles for working on this flexible template (which I just spent 4 hours porting it for the Game of Go, but you can infer, right? ;-) -- Natalinasmpf 02:11, 8 May 2005 (UTC)

Yes, it is just to sort of abreviate because pawn would be too long to fit in that space and still be able to read --Hmwordock53 14:14, May 23, 2005 (UTC)
I like the traditional board much better. I like visualizing the pieces better. I like the previous colors better.
