'''HydraIRC''' is an [[Internet Relay Chat]] client for [[Microsoft Windows|Windows]], created in June 2002 and developed by Dominic Clifton.

==History==
Stemming from discontent with other client offerings at the time, Dominic originally coded HydraIRC as an IRC client for personal use. It is loosely based on the design of [[Bersirc]]. Due to the how quickly it matured into a usable client, Dominic soon released it to the public. Since then, interest has grown in the client due to its quirky quit messages and grass-roots promotion.

==Development==
HydraIRC is coded in [[C++]] and uses the [[Windows Template Library]]. Patches are accepted and approved only by Dominic.

The client was previously released under a non-[[Open Source Initiative|OSI]] "limited-use source" license, which made the source code available. Despite the claims of the website, it is no longer a truly open-source program, although one can obtain the source by requesting source access.
