A Sovereign Class starship has 24 decks, and is equipped with [[Quantum Torpedo]]s.
Only two Sovereign Class ships have ever been built:
* The original USS Sovereign ([[NCC|NX]]-73811), prototype of its class and testbed for several new technologies like enhanced deflectors and shields; The program was considered a failure when it turned out that the availiable warp cores at that time were not powerful enough to suit the huge energy needs of the ship's systems.
* The [[Starship Enterprise|USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E]], commanded by Captain [[Jean-Luc Picard]]. In contrast to the USS Sovereign, this ship was equipped with conventional shields and deflectors. As of 2373, it is the flagship of the [[Starfleet]]. Among other improvements, it was capable of cloaking and used a three-dimensional control panel. It appeared in the [[Next Generation]] episode in which Picard contacted his past and future selves; the future self, suffering from a nerve disease, came out of retirement to close a [[temporal breach]]
