KitFox Vineyards is a California winery located within the Salado Creek AVA specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Viognier. KitFox Vineyards is also known for creating some of the most interesting california red and white blends available in the Foxy Red and the Foxy White. KitFox is one of 3 grape growers in the Salado Creek AVA with 44 acres and the only vineyard in the area to produce its own product. KitFox Vineyards uses the wine production Facilities of McComack-Williams in Acampo, California. Chad Joseph, KitFox Vineyards winemaker specializes in intreguing blending and has come out in force to produce the Foxy wine project with grapes such as, Chenin Blanc,Refosco, Orange Muscat, Viognier, Petite Sirah and Verdelhoto name a few.
The Vogel Family consisting of Hunter Vogel, Laura Vogel and Hunter's father Fred Vogel, own and operate the vineyards and it's parallel almond and Walnut orchard to produce some of the most interesting and premium wines in the Central Valley.
History
Hunter Vogel represents the fourth generation of farmers in his family. His Father, grandfather and his fathers grandfather have all had the passion of growing a seed into a finished product. This is a family tradition. Then, Hunter had an idea...
KitFox Vineyards started in 2000 with the planting of Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon(32 acres), Syrah (8.8 acres), Viognier (1.6 acres) and Sauvignon Blanc (1.5 acres)), after it was determined that the land on which they had been growing almonds and walnuts was not only suitable for farming wine grapes, but was a terroir of great undiscovered potential. With the assistance and conclusion of viticultural experts from the University of California, Davis, as well as independent consultants. Hence KitFox Vineyards was born, sourced by 44-acres of vineyards producing superb wines.
Wines
KitFox Vineyards produces single-estates, single vineyard wines where the grapes are grown at on the vineyards in Patterson and carefully produced and blended from the individual vineyard. Carson's Vineyard Viognier, Chloe's Vineyard Syrah and Sawyer's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are all very well balanced, carefully mastered and well refined wines for pairing with foods or to enjoy and savor by themselves. Each of these wines product approximately 850 cases and 900 cases per year
The two flagship wines for KitFox Vineyards are the Foxy Red and the Foxy White. The Production level on the Foxy wines is approximately 12,000 cases together. The Foxy Red is a Cabernet Sauvignon based wine, blended with either Syrah, Petite Sirah and/or Refosco, depending on the vintage and the availability. The Foxy White will have Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Verdehlo, Albarino, Orange Muscat, Riesling and anything else is interesting at the time of production. This gives these wines, year after year, a different and even more enticing appeal.
With the help of Antoine Pin, Director of Sales & Marketing for KitFox Vineyards, Hunter Vogel has had not only the opportunity to expand his distribution into further points in the US, but Canada as well. KitFox Vineyards has been and will continue to produce the most interesting blends and single vineyard wines available from California, but is working with associate winemakers and wineries to produce other products, such as the Treasure Hunter Wine Series, Ambrose Wines and Carson Scott Wines. These projects have been in development and production with Andrew Lerner of Dark Horse WinesAntoine Pin and well regarded Sonoma Valley winemaker Michael Loykasek (2007 Winemaker of the Year - Sonoma County Harvest Fair).
