The UBC Liquid-Mirror Observatory uses a [[liquid mirror telescope]], which is a [[reflecting telescope]] that uses a pool of highly reflective [[liquid]] to produce a high [[image resolution|resolution]] [[image]]. An [[electric motor]] rotates the pool to cause the liquid to form a surface similar to a [[sedimentary basin|basin]]. This is necessary, because a basin shaped surface produces reflection better that a flat surface. Light enters through the top of the [[telescope]], is reflected off the liquid, and then can be seen as a magnified picture.
