Kuki Linux (pronounced "cookie") is a lightweight Ubuntu based distribution. It was created to be a replacement for the Fedora based Linpus Linux distribution bundled with the Acer Aspire One. It is built with the aim of being lightweight, fast, and being optimized for netbooks. Like Ubuntu, Kuki Linux is free software.
Development goals
Kuki Linux was developed as a replacement for the bundled Linpus OS that was bundled with the Aspire One. it is being built so it has Backward compatibility with Ubuntu, is optimized to fully take advantage of the netbooks hardware, and to provide easy access to all users.
Main characteristics
Kuki Linux's main idea is to give the user the ability of installing an Operating System that will be fully hardware compatible with the Acer Aspire One out of the box. Since Kuki Linux is currently in alpha, it is quite unstable.
It differs to Ubuntu in a lot of ways, one of the most notable being the inclusion of the Xfce desktop environment.
Kuki Linux Custom Kernel
The Kuki Linux Kernel contains some driver modules that make it work better with the Acer Aspire one, allowing for a more out of the box experience.
Kuki Linux Team
Kuki Linux is maintained by a small group of developers from around the world:
* Joao Ferro, also known as leak, is the project's founder.
* Joseph Braddock, also known as vw72, is the project's kernel maintainer.
* Pedro Quintas, also known as linxisp, is the website maintainer. He also kindly hosts the project's website.
* Dulcidio Costa, also known as dcosta or hades_pt, is a very professional designer supplying wallpapers for the project, among other things.
History
Kuki linux is being developed since October 21 of 2008.
