She went on to [[Ravenshaw College]] to study Science at the Intermediate Level before doing her Graduation in Commerce from [[Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College]], also known as BJB College College in [[Bhubaneswar]] in 1998. Roopa says she grew up in a very encouraging environment where she interacted with "leading people from every walk of life." Her husband Anshuman Tripathy, who was a student of the [[IIM Calcutta]], encouraged her to take the examination after two years of marriage, which took place in 2000, after which Ms. Mishra had worked at the Directorate of Distance & Continuing Education of Utkal University for over a year before she decided to quit job and start preparing for this national level examination.

An [[Odissi]] Dancer since her childhood, Ms. Mishra achieved this feat in her first attempt itself and that too by having absolutely two new subjects ([[Psychology]] & [[Public Administration]]) for the examination.
