The Charleston Splash are a professional women basketball team based in Charleston, SC. They play in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL).

Franchise history
The Beginning
The club now known as the Splash began play as the Charleston Splash in the 2008–09 season. The next season, they will keep the name the Charleston Splash. In their first year in Charleston, the Splash finished 4th in a 8– team South Division.

Prior to the 2008–09 WBCBL season the Splash pulled off a blockbuster athletic tryout. The tryout worked out well; for the selected 15 out of over 50 women athletes that tried out they proved to be a hustling, fundamentally sound group of players who helped the Splash Kick start their first season. A season that all of the South Carolina’s Lowcountry people can be proud of. In the 2009 WBCBL Season, the Splash stunned all of the Lowcountry and the Splash supporter with a season record of 7–3, and advanced to the Southern Regional’s. In the regional’s, Charleston managed to give there all but lost to the Atlanta Lady Battlecats 70–65.

Women History in Basketball
Women in sports had many obstacles to overcome in the past. It may be surprising to discover that women began playing basketball less than a year after the game was invented in 1891. They were scrutinized for the development of masculine behaviors. It was believe to be so scandalous that parent and help care official seek to abolish it. As women's basketball grew out of its infancy, they continued to struggle with balancing their femininity with athleticism. The sporting woman gained acceptance with the comprehensive history of the game and women’s athletes' struggle. From the time when President Richard Nixon signed the Title IX of the Educational Amendment of 1972 and the formation of the collegiate sport for women. They went from Frailty to Final Four overcoming the tension between athleticism and femininity. Even back in 1984 where the US captures its first Olympic gold medal in Los Angeles for woman’s basketball. This sparked the formation of professional leagues like the WBL, ABL, and WNBA. Where women sports are moving forward by leaps and bounds. Which takes us to the NOW!!
