Beilenson|Congressman Tony Beilenson]], who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1997. Beilneson is a former Health Commissioner of [[Baltimore, Maryland]], having served for 13 years under the administrations of [[Kurt Schmoke]] and [[Martin J. O'Malley]]. He sought the [[United States Democratic Party|Democratic Party]] [[nomination]] for [[United States House of Representatives, Maryland District 3|Maryland's third congressional district]] in [[U.S. House election, 2006|2006]]; despite taking a quarter of the vote, he lost to [[John Sarbanes]]. The seat had been vacated by ten-term [[United States Congress|Congressional]] veteran [[Ben Cardin]] to pave the way for his own run for the [[United States Senate]].

He also served as an [[Emergency medical technician|EMT]], teacher and family practitioner before his tenure as Health Commissioner.
