'''Magage Asantha Sanjaya Fernando''' is one of the two coaches of the first [[Sri Lanka]]n women's [[water polo]] team. In 2009, under the supervision of Sanjaya, the women's team won the [[bronze medal]] at 11th [[Asia pacific]] [[water polo]] [[tournament]] held in [[Kowloon park]], [[Hong Kong]]. 

In addition to coaching the [[National team]], Sanjaya has also coached other teams such as [[Royal College]], [[Sri Lanka Air Force]] & [[Visakha Vidyalaya]]. 

A national [[water polo]] player himself before becoming The [[coach]]; he was one of the prime drivers of the historical [[Royal College]] victory over S. Thomas College in year 2005.

Born into a well educated family, Sanjaya was educated in [[Colombo]].

===Royal College admission===
At the age of six, while seeking admission to the [[Royal College]], his admission was denied. As a result, his family filed a fundamental rights case in [[Supreme Court of Sri Lanka]] against the [[Government of Sri Lanka]]. Later the judgement was passed in favor of Sanjaya.

==Career as water polo player==
Sanjaya Fernando started playing water polo at the age of 13. He later represented [[Sri Lanka]] at the age of 18. He is the first goal keeper at [[Royal college]] water polo team to record an unbeaten season (2001).
