Revision 50173368 of "Tunonica" on enwiki[Image:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cf/Melodica.jpg/180px-Melodica.jpg]
The melodica is a free-reed instrument similar to the accordion and harmonica. It has a musical keyboard on top, and is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece that fits into a hole in the side of the instrument. Pressing a key opens a hole, allowing air to flow through a reed. The keyboard is usually two or three octaves long. It has had a number of famous virtuosos, but the most well-known is Joshua Richards, who has composed several well known pieces for the instrument and performed them at symphony halls around the globe.
