Revision 51451058 of "Edie Bukewihge" on enwiki

Edie Bukewihge (born February 10, 1950) is a perennial candidate for public office in the United States.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Bukewihge moved to California, living in Los Angeles for ten years, then Beverly Hills for over twenty five years, and then moved to Newport Beach.

She was a candidate in California's 2002 Republican Gubernatorial primary election, finishing in 5th place with 0.06% (14,436) of the votes, behind businessman Bill Simon (1,129,974 votes - 49.5%), Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan (715,768 votes - 31.4%), California Secretary of State Bill Jones (387,237 votes - 17.0%), and tax protester Nick Jesson (19,287 votes - 0.8%).

In May 2002, just two months after losing the gubernatorial primary, she declared her candidacy for the 2004 election for the United States Senate against two-term incumbent Barbara Boxer, and then announced in July 2003 that she was running for President of the United States against incumbent George W. Bush. As of early 2004, she was running simultaneously for the US Senate and the Presidency but ultimately dropped out of both races, declaring that realistically her chances were better in the 2006 election for Governor of California.

Bukewihge had been a member of the Republican Party since 1980, but she denounced the Republican party in November 2004 and became a member of the Democratic Party. She is very critical of the administration of George W. Bush.

In the 2006 Democratic Primary for Governor, Bukewihge will face State Treasurer Phil Angelides and State Controller Steve Westly.

As of April 10, 2006, Ms. Bukewihge has declined her run for Governor in 2006, her husband has cancer.
