Dr. '''Peter Beilenson''' is a [[United States Democratic Party|Democratic Party]] politician in [[Maryland]], [[United States]]. He is a former Health Commissioner of [[Baltimore, Maryland]], having served for 13 years under the administrations of Kurt Schmoke and [[Martin J. O'Malley]]. He is currently seeking the [[United States Democratic Party|Democratic]] [[Nomination]] for [[United States House of Representatives, Maryland District 3|Maryland's third congressional district]] in [[U.S. House election, 2006|2006]]. The seat will be open because ten-term [[Congressional]] Veteran [[Ben Cardin]] is running for the U.S. [[Senate]].

Named the "Best Civil Servant" by Baltimore Magazine and recognized nationally by the American [[Public Health]] Association for "creative public health work," his dedication to public service was instilled at an early age as the son of [[Anthony C. Beilenson|Congressman Tony Beilenson]], who served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 -1997.   

Dr. Beilenson received his undergraduate degree from [[Harvard College]], Medical Doctorate from [[Emory University]] School of Medicine, and Masters in Public Health from [[Johns Hopkins University]] [[Bloomberg School of Public Health]]. He also served as an [[EMT]], [[teacher]] and family practitioner before his tenure as Health Commissioner. 

Dr. Beilenson has five children--two with his third wife, Chris--and lives in [[Baltimore, Maryland|Baltimore]] City.
