Akrit Jaswal (born April 23, 1993, Nurpur) is an Indian who performed his first surgery at the age of seven.
Early life
Jaswal learned to speak, read and write at an early age. At five years old, he had started reading plays by William Shakespeare and books about medicine. Doctors in his hometown of Nurpur, Himachal Pradesh started allowing him to watch and learn how to perform surgical procedures.
On November 19, 2000, at the age of seven, Jaswal performed a surgery on an eight-year-old girl. She had burns on her finger from five years before, and her parents previously had not been able to pay for surgery because they did not have the financial means. Short videos of the surgery appeared on YouTube in 2007, and Jaswal became known for this.
College and publicity
Jaswal was accepted into Chandrigarh College when he was twelve years old. In 2005, "Firecracker Films" brought him to England, to perform tests he also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show. He also received some media attention for declaring that he knows a cure to cancer, though this was met with skepticism and nothing came of it.
Some have theorized that Jaswal's fame as a child may actually have been harmful to him, leading to too much pressure on him as a child. Jaswal denied these claims.
