'''Lusaka''' is the [[capital city]] of [[Zambia]]. It is located in south central Zambia on a plateau at 4200 feet (1 400 m) in altitude. Population 1,640,000 ([[2000]])

Lusaka was founded in [[1905]] by [[European]] settlers, at the site of a village named after the village headman Lusaaka. Due to its central location in the country, in [[1935]] it replaced [[Livingstone]] as the capital of the British [[colony]] [[Northern Rhodesia]]. In [[1964]] it became the capital of the newly independent Zambia.

On [[March 1]], [[1999]] four bombs detonated in Lusaka, one of which destroyed the [[Angola]]n [[Embassy]].
