Winkler was signed by the [[Rhein Fire]] in 2005 and played three seasons for [[Frankfurt Galaxy]], recording 20 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 2007.

In 2006, Winkler was participated in the [[International Practice Squad Program|NFL International Development Practice Squad Program]] and spent the season on the [[Cleveland Browns]]' practice squad.

Winkler spent the 2007 season as the international practice squad player for the [[Tennessee Titans]].
